Must read

The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) has announced that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) would be signed with the winner of the Kathu-Patong expressway development project at the end of this year.

The government disclosed its timeframe during a pre-bid meeting with private businesses interested in bidding to build the 3.98-kilometer road in Phuket province. According to reports, thirteen businesses have showed interest in this auction.

Surachat Laophulsuk, governor of EXAT, stated that the department has sent data to interested firms and that they have until April 7 to submit their offers. The announcement and the MoU are scheduled for December of this year.

The highway will extend from Phra Metta Road in tambon Patong to tambon Kathu in the same district, connecting the eastern side of the island to Patong Beach.

The expressway will be constructed through a public-private partnership (PPP). The government would conduct land expropriation, with a budget of 5.79 billion baht agreed by the Cabinet. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2024 and end in 2027.
