Khung Bang Kachao in the province of Samut Prakan has been recognized as a sustainable tourist zone.

The national tourist policy committee has authorized the development of Khung Bang Kachao as a designated region for sustainable tourism, according to Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn. The recommendation was made by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA).

The designated area encompasses six tambon of Khung Bang Kachao, situated in Samut Prakan’s Phra Pradaeng district, encompassing Bang Kachao, Bang Krasop, Bang Yo, Bang Namphueng, Bang Ko Bua and Songkanong. Minister noted that the news is consistent with the government’s green development program and the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy model.

Gp Captain Athikun Kongmee, director of DASTA, stated that the agency will collaborate with local people to establish policies for the region based on the sufficiency economic ideology of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great. Additionally, he stated that the agency will implement global sustainable tourism criteria (GSTC) standards to evaluate the region’s strengths and shortcomings, as well as educate local populations and authorities about the Sustainable Tourism Management Standard (STMS).

Khung Bang Kachao is considered Bangkok’s “Green Lung” and one of the nation’s most significant oxygen generators. Time magazine rated Bang Kachao the finest urban oasis in Asia in 2006, citing its 12,000-rai expanse of agriculture, woods, and more than 13,000 households.
