In a shocking turn of events, a taxi driver’s encounter with a Polish man in Bangkok has exposed a horrifying crime that has left the community in disbelief. The taxi driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, revealed in an exclusive interview with Thai news platform CH3 the chilling details of his interaction with the suspect, Lagoda Filippow Jan Jerzy. The Polish national stands accused of brutally murdering his 27-year-old Ukrainian girlfriend, known only as “Alona,” and attempting to dismember her lifeless body within the confines of a Bangkok condominium.
The taxi driver recounted how he picked up the suspect outside a condo in the Bang Kho Laem district, intending to assist him in finding a casino. As communication barriers hindered their conversation, they resorted to using Google Translate to bridge the gap. It was during this exchange that Lagoda made a chilling request, seeking assistance in disposing of a body. The driver, taken aback by the alarming nature of the inquiry, decided to seek help and invited his English-speaking friend, Ek, a Tuk Tuk driver, to join the conversation.
To their shock and horror, Lagoda confessed to stabbing his Ukrainian girlfriend when questioned about his motives. He further astounded the drivers by asking if they could aid him in bagging the dismembered body parts. Sensing the gravity of the situation, the taxi driver acted swiftly, dropping off the suspect outside a hotel on Sathorn Road. He then rushed back to the condo to inform the security guard, setting in motion a chain of events that would lead to the grim discovery of Alona’s remains.
The taxi driver’s friend, Ek, aged 47, corroborated the account, adding that the suspect had shown a disturbing message via Google Translate, seeking assistance in eliminating the putrid smell associated with his heinous crime. Faced with this disturbing revelation, both drivers realized the urgent need to inform the condominium’s security guard, who promptly took action.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage captured the last moments of Alona’s life, depicting her walking down the condo corridor accompanied by Lagoda at 11:52 pm on a fateful Friday. Subsequently, the assailant was seen walking down the same corridor with a box believed to contain the saws used in the dismemberment at 12:15 pm on Sunday. Just twenty minutes later, he was captured on camera descending in an elevator, clutching a large bag, presumably containing the remains.
Law enforcement agencies, aided by vigilant personnel, apprehended Lagoda at the Khlong Luek Border Checkpoint as he desperately attempted to escape into Cambodia. The suspect’s arrest marked a crucial milestone in the pursuit of justice for Alona’s tragic demise.
While the investigation is still ongoing, it is known that Alona and Lagoda arrived in Thailand as tourists on April 29, 2023, and had been residing together in the rented condo in Bangkok. The room, numbered 708 on the 32nd floor, became a gruesome crime scene, with Alona’s dismembered and bloodied body discovered sprawled upon the bed. A saw was shockingly found placed across her partially severed remains.
Authorities have taken swift action, coordinating with the Polish Embassy in Bangkok to ensure effective communication during the suspect’s interrogation. Meanwhile, Alona’s body has been transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Chulalongkorn Hospital, where it will undergo a thorough autopsy conducted by professionals from the esteemed Ruam Kantanyu Rescue Foundation.
The heart-wrenching details of this gruesome crime have shaken the local community, prompting a collective call for justice. The tragic fate that befell Alona serves as a somber
reminder of the importance of vigilance and prompt action when confronted with potential threats. As the investigation proceeds, the public remains united in their resolve to support the authorities and seek justice for Alona, ensuring that her memory is not overshadowed by the darkness of this horrifying incident.
