Thailand’s Tourism Authority (TAT) is set to captivate taste buds and ignite culinary wanderlust as it announces the eagerly anticipated ‘Bangkok International Food Festival 2023.’ This gastronomic extravaganza aims to redefine Thailand’s position as a world-class gastronomy tourism destination while offering visitors an immersive and experience-based journey into the kingdom’s culinary treasures.
From May 26 to May 30, between 3:00 PM and 10:00 PM, the ‘Bangkok International Food Festival 2023’ will take center stage at the centralwOrld shopping plaza and complex in the heart of Bangkok.
Mr. Apichai Chatchalermkit, TAT’s Deputy Governor of Tourism Products and Business, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “The Bangkok International Food Festival 2023 is poised to become a prominent culinary affair that not only showcases the richness of our gastronomy tourism experiences but also highlights the diversity of our food culture—one of Thailand’s 5F soft-power foundations. This festival serves as a testament to Thailand’s ability to host grand-scale international food events, raising the profile of our culinary offerings and enhancing our competitiveness in the global travel and tourism arena.”
At its core, the Bangkok International Food Festival 2023 aspires to inspire both Thai and international tourists to explore the vast treasures of Thailand through culinary journeys. The festival aims to bolster local tourism by enticing visitors to embark on culinary tours, ultimately benefiting local communities through increased travel expenditures.
Spanning five days, this culinary extravaganza will immerse attendees in four key activities and five distinct zones, all accompanied by live music performances.
The festival’s four key activities will include captivating cooking demonstrations by renowned participating restaurants and eateries, the creation of exclusive Chef’s Table menus curated by esteemed chefs from around the world, the adaptation of Thai street food menus by specialized culinary experts, and innovative workshops focused on crafting exquisite fine dining experiences using advanced culinary techniques. Esteemed international chefs, including Chef Jacob Jan Boerma, Chef Davio Gil Rovira, Chef Alejandro Huertas, Chef Ruben Arnanz, and Chef Saito Daikichi, are among the talented individuals gracing the festival with their presence.
To further enrich the culinary journey, the festival will feature five distinct zones. The International Food Zone will showcase globally recognized restaurants, eateries, and bakeries, while the MICHELIN Guide Zone will present an array of 15 distinguished MICHELIN-awarded dining establishments. The Featured Zone will pay homage to famous restaurants representing all five regions of Thailand, providing visitors with a comprehensive taste of the nation’s culinary diversity. For enthusiasts of authentic street food, the Street Food Zone will serve as a haven, featuring an array of delectable street food eateries from across Thailand. Lastly, the Café Zone will delight coffee connoisseurs with a selection of top-tier cafes.
TAT proudly unveiled the Bangkok International Food Festival 2023 during a press conference held on May 22, 2023. The event featured a captivating panel discussion featuring TAT’s Mr. Apichai, renowned chef ‘Chef Noom’ Thanintorn Chantharawan from the Michelin-starred Chim by Siam Wisdom restaurant in Bangkok, and Thailand’s leading food enthusiast, Mawin Taweephol (Mawinfinferrr).
