During the first half of fiscal 2023, almost 30,000 Thai workers were dispatched to take on various positions overseas, resulting in over 100 billion baht being sent back to Thailand in remittances. In May, the government aims to send an additional 1,400 workers abroad.

Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha praised the various agencies involved in the export of Thai workers during the first six months of the fiscal year. He noted that the Department of Employment authorized overseas work for 29,395 Thai workers during this time period, and these workers were able to transfer 120 billion baht back to Thailand through the Bank of Thailand.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the labor sector in driving the economy. He noted that not only do overseas workers send remittances back to Thailand, but they also bring back valuable knowledge and technology that can contribute to national development. Gen. Prayut asserted that the government is prepared to support the lawful overseas employment of high-quality Thai workers.

Government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri also emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting Thai workers. He stated that an additional 1,400 workers will be sent overseas this month, and that Thailand has a target of sending 11,300 workers to three primary destinations in 2023: the Republic of Korea, Israel, and Japan. As of the first three months of 2023, Thailand has already sent over 3,637 workers to these countries.
