Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has tightened control of childcare institutions after the Nong Bua Lamphu disaster. The goal is to reduce parents’ concern and improve children’s safety.

BMA spokeswoman Ekwaranyu Amrapan stated that BMA law enforcement officers will be boosting their surveillance of childcare institutions. Continuous coordination will be maintained with childcare facility operators, and drills will be held to prepare for emergencies. He advised childcare facilities in need of assistance to call their local police department and BMA law enforcement authorities. Mr. Ekwaranyu stated that the BMA is also considering offering training for childcare institutions on how to deal with difficulties such as assaults.

According to the spokeswoman, schools under the BMA’s control have adopted safety measures such as engaging security guards throughout the clock. Outsiders are not permitted to enter schools during instructional times. BMA law enforcement and police officers frequently help with traffic at schools in the mornings and afternoons. Their presence also helps to ensure school safety. Mr. Ekwaranyu stated that every school has a designated safe zone where pupils are evacuated in an emergency. Each school also has a strategy in place for requesting assistance from other groups in the region, such as the military, police, or health institutions.
