In principle, the Cabinet has approved the standards for vetting asylum seekers. This will aid those who, due to safety concerns, are unable or unable to return to their native nations.
The criteria and consideration procedure for protected person status have been created, according to Trisulee Trisaranakul, deputy spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office. The applicant cannot be a Thai national or a permanent resident of Thailand. An alternative explanation is that the person has joined the kingdom and is either unable or unwilling to leave. A stateless individual who is unable or unwilling to return to their country of permanent residence may also make such a request. There are legitimate concerns about safety if you go back to your home state. Any individual seeking refugee status shall not fall within the purview of any Ministry of the Interior-mandated protection categories. The individual also cannot be a protected migrant worker from Myanmar, Laos, or Cambodia.
There must be reasonable grounds for fear that the individual would suffer harm if returned to their home country. Such wrongs can take the form of physical violence, threats to life or liberty, torture, disappearance, or any number of other serious abuses of human rights. The individual must not have been found ineligible for international protection in the past. An individual must be either physically or mentally unable to return to their country of permanent residence in order to qualify as a stateless person.
A background check and police record examination of the protection seeker are also required. A doctor’s note stating that the individual does not suffer from any of the prohibited ailments is also required.
Ms. Trisulee claims that the competent agencies have given their general approval of these criteria.
