Two foreign cyclists mistakenly transferred over 22,000 baht instead of 221.50 baht for two coffees at a café in Nakhon Ratchasima on 31 May, prompting a refund effort by the business.
The overpayment occurred at Mount Wind Tree Cafe, a roadside stop in Nakhon Ratchasima province, when the customers—later identified as foreign tourists traveling by bicycle—settled their bill using mobile banking. The actual amount owed was 221.50 baht, approximately 6.74 US dollars, but due to an error, the pair transferred 22,150 baht, or roughly 674 dollars.
The café shared a post on social media shortly after the incident, requesting assistance in identifying the tourists to facilitate a refund. The transaction and an image of one of the cyclists were captured and posted by the business as part of the appeal.
A day later, on 1 June, the café confirmed via its Facebook page that contact had been made with one of the customers, identified as Ben Jacobs. The establishment reported that the full refund had been successfully processed through the bank.
The Mount Wind Tree Cafe’s post received widespread attention online, with many praising the honesty of the staff. Details regarding other individuals present or assisting during the process were mentioned by the café in their social media updates.
