On January 15, 2025, a tiger injured by an animal trap was transported from the Bueng Chawak Wildlife Management Development Center in Suphan Buri Province to the Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Breeding Station in Uthai Thani Province. The relocation, covering 140 kilometers, was conducted by Phu Toei National Park officers and veterinary experts to ensure the tiger receives care in a semi-natural environment under specialized supervision.

The tiger, a female estimated to be under seven years old, was initially discovered outside Phu Toei National Park in Dan Chang District, Suphan Buri Province. National Park officers found a steel wire trap embedded in the animal’s right front ankle. After sedating the tiger, they removed the wire, cleaned the wound, and administered antibiotics, fluids, and vitamins. The animal was then observed at the Phu Toei National Park office before being transferred to the Bueng Chawak Wildlife Rescue Center for further care.

Veterinary specialists performed several critical procedures during the tiger’s treatment. A microchip was implanted in its left shoulder for identification and tracking, and samples were collected to test for infectious diseases, analyze blood chemistry, and contribute to a genetic database. These samples will be analyzed at Mahidol University’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Wildlife Forensic Science Center under the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation.

Officials confirmed that the tiger reached the Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Breeding Station safely around 10:00 p.m. The station is recognized for its expertise in caring for wild tigers and its adherence to wildlife management regulations established in 2022. The tiger’s condition will be closely monitored, with updates provided on its recovery and further research outcomes.
