Rescue teams recovered the body of an Indian national today, a kilometer downstream from the cliff at Samui’s Namuang 2 Waterfall, where he tragically fell on Saturday.
The incident occurred when the victim, whose name has not been disclosed, visited the waterfall with two friends. Climbing up the cliff to take photos, he reportedly disregarded warnings from his friends about the slippery terrain, strong currents, and prominent safety signs.
After his fall, rescue teams, comprising around 30 personnel, initiated a search operation, but efforts were halted due to heavy rain. The search resumed yesterday across both land and water, with the body found covered in tree branches in a pond about a kilometer from the waterfall.
Poonchid Kamloon, the chief of Samui Island’s disaster prevention and mitigation unit, confirmed the remains will be returned to the victim’s family once they come forward to claim the body. He also urged tourists visiting waterfalls, particularly during Thailand’s rainy season, to exercise extreme caution and observe all safety signs.
