A Thai man was arrested in Bangkok for distributing explicit videos of his ex-girlfriend in retaliation for allegedly contracting a sexually transmitted disease (STD), police confirmed. The suspect, identified as Paitune, was apprehended on October 6 in the Suan Luang district after evading arrest for several months.
The case began in May 2022, when officers from Prasat Police Station in Surin, Isaan province, received a complaint from the victim. She reported that Paitune had posted intimate videos of her on social media, tagging her friends in the posts. According to the victim, she had met Paitune through TikTok in January 2022, while still living in Surin. Shortly after, she moved to Bangkok to live with him. However, the relationship ended in March 2022, prompting her return to her home province.
In the weeks following their breakup, Paitune allegedly posted the explicit videos online, leading the victim to file a formal complaint with the police. Although local law enforcement in Surin attempted to arrest him, Paitune had already fled to Bangkok. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) took over the case and eventually tracked him to accommodation on Phattanakarn Road, where he was arrested.
During questioning, Paitune admitted to sharing the videos out of anger. He claimed the woman had contracted an STD and failed to inform him, resulting in him contracting the same infection. He said this discovery led him to break up with her and seek revenge by posting the explicit content.
Paitune was transferred to Prasat Police Station for further legal action. He faces charges under Section 14(4) of Thailand’s Computer Crimes Act for uploading indecent material to a public system. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to 100,000 baht.
Authorities who worked on the case noted the serious legal consequences for those found guilty of distributing explicit material without consent, underscoring the importance of protecting victims of such crimes.
