A motorcycle accident in Chachoengsao province escalated into violence when a drunk man, 28-year-old Thianchai, and his friend attacked rescuers who arrived to help. The incident occurred on Sukhumvit Road in the Bang Pakong district on September 9, 2024, following a false accusation of sexual assault by the intoxicated suspect.
Thianchai, who had crashed his motorcycle, left his girlfriend, 37-year-old Parephan, injured on a traffic island. Chatchawan, a 35-year-old rescuer passing by on his motorcycle, stopped to assist and called his rescue team. However, under the influence of alcohol, Thianchai misinterpreted the situation and believed that Chatchawan was assaulting his girlfriend.
Despite Chatchawan’s attempts to explain that he was a rescuer, the situation quickly spiraled out of control. Thianchai attacked him and called his friend, 29-year-old Kraisak, to join in. The pair continued the assault until another rescuer, 36-year-old Suthee, arrived at the scene to intervene.
According to Channel 3, Kraisak then drew a knife and attempted to stab Chatchawan, but Suthee stepped in to protect him. The attack was redirected towards Suthee, who was repeatedly stabbed in the chest, body, and back. Despite the escalating violence, more rescuers and local residents, along with officers from Bang Pakong Police Station, managed to bring the chaotic scene under control.
The community reacted with outrage toward Thianchai and Kraisak for their actions. Furious residents assaulted the suspects, prompting the police to intervene and take them into custody to prevent further violence.
In an unexpected twist, Kraisak’s girlfriend condemned the local residents, accusing them of unjustly attacking her boyfriend. She defended his actions, claiming that the rescuers had started the altercation. Another individual, Boonrod, a friend of Thianchai, supported her claims, leading to a heated exchange with locals, which resulted in Boonrod being attacked and later hospitalized.
Meanwhile, rescuers reported that Suthee remains in critical condition, as one of the stab wounds punctured his lung. However, the other three wounds did not hit vital organs.
Authorities have charged Kraisak with physical assault under Section 295 of Thailand’s Criminal Law, which carries a potential penalty of up to two years in prison, a fine of up to 40,000 baht, or both. Depending on the condition of the injured rescuers, Kraisak could face more severe charges.
