In the early hours of this morning, tragedy struck the pet zone of Bangkok’s Chatuchak market as a devastating fire broke out, claiming the lives of hundreds of caged animals and causing extensive damage to over 100 stores. Thankfully, no human casualties have been reported.

Firefighters swiftly responded to the scene, battling the blaze for about an hour before managing to bring it under control. However, the pet zone continues to emit white smoke, prompting ongoing efforts to prevent the fire from reigniting.

Witnesses described harrowing scenes as the fire engulfed the building, with sounds of creaking indicating potential structural collapse. Suriyachai Rawiwan, deputy director of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department, lamented the tragic loss of hundreds of pets, including birds, dogs, cats, chickens, and snakes, trapped in their cages with no chance of escape.

As authorities investigate the cause of the fire, the community mourns the devastating impact on both animals and businesses in the cherished pet zone of Chatuchak market.
