Former prime ministerial candidate Pita Limjaroenrat has declared his preparedness to assume leadership if circumstances allow, especially in the event of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s removal by a court ruling.

A notable figure within the Move Forward Party (MFP), Pita conveyed his willingness to step into a leadership role amidst the escalating political uncertainties gripping the nation.

During the Bangkok Pride Parade held at the National Stadium on Saturday, Pita, serving as a party-list MP and chief adviser to the MFP leader, articulated his stance in an exclusive interview. This declaration coincides with the Constitutional Court’s acceptance of a petition filed by 40 senators, challenging Srettha’s tenure due to an alleged ethics violation in a Cabinet appointment.

“Our strategy is rooted in maximizing our efforts. In the event of any political upheaval, we are guided by our principles and ideologies. Should Parliament dissolve, we are poised for an election at any juncture, adhering strictly to legal protocols. Our aim isn’t power seizure or authoritative competition,” asserted Pita.

Expressing appreciation for the public’s unwavering support, Pita acknowledged the MFP’s ascent to the top position in opinion polls conducted by the King Prajadhipok’s Institute.

“While each poll has its limitations, with this specific survey encompassing only 1,600 respondents, it nonetheless serves as a source of encouragement and impetus for our endeavors. Yet, we interpret it not as grounds for complacency but as a catalyst for intensified efforts,” he noted.

Pita stressed the necessity for sustained diligence, as reported by The Nation, emphasizing, “The public’s backing serves as a driving force for the MFP to persevere, irrespective of circumstances. It signifies one of several indicators we must heed, given the multifaceted economic, social, and political challenges confronting us.”

In parallel developments, Pita has unveiled an ambitious strategy to reconcile a polarized populace. At a panel discussion in Seoul, the former MFP leader outlined his party’s role as a unifying force, bridging disparate factions to cultivate a new consensus for Thai society.
