Bangkok’s Governor, Chadchart Sittipunt, has laid out plans to implement sustainable development initiatives in the city’s historic Old Town before his term concludes in 2026. The commitment came during a meeting in the Samphanthawong district, where Chadchart articulated his vision for rejuvenating neighborhoods along the canals in the Rattanakosin area, including Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem and Khlong Ong Ang, among others.

Engaging with stakeholders, Chadchart recently interacted with business operators and residents in Talat Noi, Yaowarat, and Phahurat areas. His aim was to assess interest in more frequent road closures during weekends, with the intention of boosting commercial activities.

In addition, the governor proposed the transformation of certain roads into pedestrian zones, earmarked for street food and dining areas. These proposed changes draw inspiration from the success witnessed in the Song Wat area, where collaborative efforts between locals and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) led to significant neighborhood revitalization.

Currently, the Samphanthawong District Office is actively soliciting feedback from local businesses and residents to shape a comprehensive development action plan by year-end. To ensure inclusivity, public forums will be convened, providing community members with a platform to directly voice their opinions and expectations regarding the district’s future development.
