In response to the discovery of another missing body, the Koh Samui District Chief took decisive action by issuing a warning to swimmers, urging them to heed the red flag symbol indicating hazardous sea conditions. Safety measures were paramount following recent tragic incidents.
On February 28, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., officials convened at Seaside Bungalows on Chaweng Beach, Village No. 3, Bo Phut Subdistrict, Koh Samui District, Surat Thani Province. Led by Mr. Kampanat Klinsaowakon, Koh Samui District Chief, and accompanied by Pol. Lt. Col. Charoen Kerdkaew, Deputy Superintendent of Police, and other key figures, including local council members and volunteer leaders of rescue units, they announced the closure of the marine disaster victim search center. The decision came after the discovery of a male Mathayom 3 student’s body, marking the second drowning incident within a short span.
The unfortunate incident occurred on the evening of February 26th, when Natthaphon, a 15-year-old student, drowned while swimming with his friend, Mark, of Nepalese nationality. Despite extensive search efforts, Natthaphon’s body was discovered washed ashore in front of a hotel on Chaweng Beach. The search operation, coordinated by dedicated volunteers and officials, culminated in the closure of the search center.
As the community grapples with these tragedies, authorities emphasize the importance of adhering to safety protocols, particularly during periods of strong waves. The closure of the search center underscores the gravity of the situation and the collective commitment to safeguarding beachgoers’ well-being.
