Land Transport Department Takes Action Against Taxi Driver for Overcharging and Violations

The Land Transport Department has taken decisive action following reports of a taxi driver overcharging passengers and committing violations. On May 29, 2023, the department announced that a taxi driver, identified as Mr. Kittipong, had been found guilty of charging an exorbitant fare of 2,000 baht for a trip from Impact Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi Province to Bang Pho BTS Station. The incident took place on May 26, 2023, at approximately 1:00 p.m.

In response to these allegations, the Land Transport Department promptly launched an investigation. The driver, Mr. Kittipong, admitted to the offense, confirming that he had indeed charged the inflated fare as reported in online media.

After carefully considering the facts, the Land Transport Department determined that the driver had violated section 5(2) of the Motor Vehicle Act B.E. by not using the fare meter. Additionally, he was found to be improperly dressed, contravening section 5(15) in conjunction with section 58 of the same act.

Consequently, Mr. Kittipong has been fined 2,000 baht and his driver’s license has been suspended for a period of 90 days. Furthermore, the department has recorded the incident in its system as a mark of the driver’s wrongdoing. It is important to note that any repetition of such offenses will result in the immediate revocation of the driver’s license.

The Land Transport Department remains committed to ensuring the fair and proper conduct of taxi drivers in order to protect the rights and interests of passengers. By taking swift action against violations, the department aims to maintain a safe and reliable transportation system for the public.
