Former Malaysian Minister of Education, Dr. Maszlee bin Malik, accompanied by his spouse, embarked on an official visit to Thailand as a guest of the National Security Council (NSC), aiming to strengthen bilateral relations and explore collaboration in education and addressing challenges in the southern border provinces.
From May 21st to May 24th, Dr. Maszlee actively participated in a series of significant activities, prioritizing peacebuilding, development promotion, and the enhancement of educational opportunities in the region. The visit commenced on May 22 with a warm reception at the Siddhi Savetsila reception hall, where Dr. Maszlee and his delegation were cordially welcomed by the NSC Secretary-General and executives.
Following the reception, a crucial meeting was held to discuss measures addressing issues in the southern border provinces, with a specific emphasis on advancing Malaysia’s education system for national development. Dr. Maszlee shared Malaysia’s experiences in leveraging technology, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data, to customize curricula according to the individual needs of learners. He underscored the immense potential of such tools in facilitating personalized education and fostering academic growth.
On May 23, an academic symposium titled “Malaysia’s Education Policy and Strategy: Lessons Learned and Recommendations for Developing an Inclusive and Balanced Education System in the Southern Border Provinces” took place at the Amari Watergate Hotel in Bangkok. The symposium delved into Malaysia’s education policy, with a special focus on the STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) education approach. Discussions also centered around enhancing academic and vocational skills within private Islamic schools, expanding opportunities for higher education, and cultivating diverse career paths.
Concluding the visit, former NSC Secretary-General Prakit Prachonpachanuk praised the symposium’s discussions and highlighted their relevance in advancing educational opportunities and fostering harmonious coexistence in the region.
Officials expressed their satisfaction with the visit, affirming its significant contributions to strengthening the bonds between Malaysia and Thailand. Moreover, the visit underscored the paramount importance of harnessing education as a potent tool for promoting peace and paving the way for a brighter future in the region.
