The Cabinet has given approval for a proposal to allocate 10.46 billion baht towards an electricity price subsidy. The proposal will now be submitted to the Election Commission for approval. This scheme aims to offer subsidies of varying amounts to households based on their level of electricity consumption.

The scheme will provide discounts in tiers for households that consume up to 300 units of electricity per month from May to August of this year. Additionally, households that consume up to 500 units of electricity during the May billing cycle will receive a discount of 150 baht.

The government’s central budget will provide the total budget of 10.46 billion baht. Of this, a budget of 35.70 million baht will be assigned to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand and the Royal Thai Navy’s electricity generating unit. The Metropolitan Electricity Authority and the Provincial Electricity Authority will receive a more substantial budget of 10.43 billion baht.

According to government spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri, the Thai constitution mandates that a caretaker government’s campaigns that require a reserve budget receive final approval from the Election Commission before the election. The Cabinet is now ready to submit this campaign proposal to the EC.
