Children between the ages of 6 months and 4 years old are now being encouraged to get the new COVID-19 vaccine, according to health officials.

Pfizer’s updated mRNA vaccine is administered over the course of three doses, each of which is housed in a red-capped vial holding 0.2 CC. All three doses must be administered at least one month apart, with the first two given monthly and the third given two months following the second.

Acting Director General of the Department of Disease Control (DDC) Dr. Thares Krasanairawiwong has recommended that all children get vaccinated, but especially those with preexisting medical issues that increase the risk of serious consequences or death from a COVID infection.

Young people are being offered the vaccination on a voluntary basis and at no cost.

According to DDC Deputy Director General and infectious disease specialist Dr. Sopon Iamsirithaworn, the COVID-19 vaccine may be administered with other vaccinations on the same day without raising any severe safety issues.

He also stated that the children’s version of the vaccination is effective in preventing the Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome caused by COVID-19 (MIS-C).
