The information delivered by the giant Google shows that the international community is more and more interested in Thailand as a tourist destination. This new trend has made the Thai authorities react and request the concerned agencies to adjust their strategies in order to respond to this renewed interest.
Mr. Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, government spokesman, said that the Prime Minister, Mr. Prayut Chan-o-cha congratulates all actors involved for their cooperation which has allowed through constant efforts to promote the tourism industry which is now shown by a measurable increase in Internet traffic about Thailand.
As a result, Laura Marie Arens, head of Google’s Travel Vertical Search Asia-Pacific division, said at the Google Hotelier Summit in Bangkok that the Thai tourism industry is showing significant signs of recovery after the suspension of the Test & Go program on May 1 and that the number of searches about Thailand has been growing since then.
According to Mr. Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, the Tourism Authority of Thailand has also found that tourism trends are currently moving toward teleworking activities, where people travel abroad while working remotely.
Travelers are also showing more interest in sustainable tourism, environmentally friendly innovations and digital technology.
The government spokesman said these recovery indicators reflect the success of the government’s policy of supporting the revitalization of the tourism industry while continuing to observe health measures according to the COVID 19 situation. The spokesman added that the Prime Minister advised agencies to adapt their strategies to keep up with these emerging trends, as well as to support tourism research and development, improve supply chains and use digital transformations as economic leverage.
