Bangkok distributed 843 Pfizer vaccines to children aged 5-11 on the first day, February 28, 2022. Still, parents are afraid of possible side effects.
On February 28, 2022, Pol. Gen. Asawin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok (BMA), visited Ritthiyawanalai, Sai Mai District, with the administration of the Bangkok Office of Education, the district office, and the administrators of Rittiyawannalai School. He opened the vaccine service point, saying “A total of 1,229 students were surveyed, but around 800 voluntarily injected, which is 70 percent. There may be additional injections. Most people who don’t receive injections may be at risk. If parents are still afraid that there will be side effects, they may have to ask about symptoms from their friends. If not, come register your children for injections. Today, we are giving Pfizer vaccines with an orange cap for children aged 5-11 years, after the first injection. Some symptoms, side effects, pain may occur, and the second needle may be given on April 25, 2022, which is 8 weeks from now. There are no other problems for sure. BMA will continue to provide injections. Today, in the future we will provide more vaccines to 5-6 graders, down to 3-4 graders. We will take care of our brothers and sisters closely,” said Pol Gen Asawin.
The reporter asked BMA about how many children had voluntarily been vaccinated. Pol Gen Asawin said about 120,000 people had voluntarily received the vaccines. There must be more voluntary injections and more needles as well.
The reporter further shared that the vaccine service was for the target group of students aged 5-11 years, with the Pfizer-Pfizer formula at Rittiyawanalai School. There are students from grades 5-6 from other schools under BMA such as Saimai School, Wat Nong Yai School, Koh Suwannaram Temple School, Soi Annex School, Wat Rat Niyom Tham School, Prachanukul School, Or Ngoen School, and Phon Phra Ruang School, totaling 843 people.
According to a survey on students of Bangkok schools, aged 5-11 years, currently at the level of Kindergarten 1 – Primary 6 from a total of 431 schools, it is found that a total of 183,553 students were registered, and their parents had informed the students that they would like to receive the vaccines. 125,165 people were vaccinated, divided into 122,130 Pfizer-Pfizer vaccines, 1,437 Sinovac-Sinovac vaccines, and 1,598 Sinovac-Pfizer vaccines. For students who choose to receive another formulation of vaccination, they will be arranged in the next phase between February 28 – March 13, 2022. Those who have received the first dose will receive a second dose between April 25 – May 29, 2022.
