A thriller in the middle of the night was a fire at a spa in the Sukhumvit area, burning down the whole place. The caretaker said the spa had been closed for nine months and was being prepared to reopen. The police are now expediting inspection.
At 1:30 AM. on February 22, 2022, Police Lieutenant Thongthorn Chatyingyongkul, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) Thonglor Police Station, received a report of the fire at a spa inside Soi Sukhumvit 49, Khlong Tan Nuea Sub-District, Wattana District, Bangkok. His team rushed to inspect and coordinate with the Khlong Toei Fire and Rescue Station for 5 fire trucks.
The spa was a two-story half-timbered house inside The Oasis Spa, which was decorated with woods. The fire was spreading from the lower floor to the upper floor quickly. Officers then had been extinguishing the fire with water for 40 minutes. The whole house, in the end, was burned down without leaving any injuries or deaths.
According to the investigation, Somphop Rotthanakorn, 31, said the spa had been closed for nine months and was being prepared to reopen soon. An explosion was heard in the laundry room, the ground floor on which the room had an electrical circuit board before the fire spread to the fabric, wooden wall and spread throughout the place quickly. He tried using a fire extinguisher by himself, but it didn’t work.
Initially, the police suspected that the accident was caused by a short circuit. Later, they will coordinate with the probation officer (OBEC) to inspect the scene again to conclude the actual cause of the fire.
Earlier this month, there was a fire at the communication line at the entrance of Soi Thonglor 4. The cause was also said to be a short circuit, and no injuries were reported.
