In an unsettling turn of events on Rat-U-Thit 200 Pee Road in Patong, Phuket, a Kuwaiti national, Mr. Turky, fell victim to a violent assault outside Central Patong Shopping Mall, resulting in his subsequent hospitalization at Patong Hospital. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of July 15, has stirred up debate over the use of excessive force and the influence of local thugs in the area.

Police Colonel Chalermchai Hernsawat, Superintendent of Patong Police Station, provided updates on the case on July 19. According to officials, Mr. Turky, aged 30, was assaulted while parking his motorcycle, accompanied by Miss Shalma, who was his passenger. The altercation began when one of the suspects, Mr. Jatupol, approached Mr. Turky, informing him that the parking spot was reserved for motorcycle taxis. Subsequently, Mr. Sayumphu, another suspect, physically assaulted Mr. Turky, who attempted to retreat to his motorcycle but was pursued and further attacked by Mr. Thanakorn. The assault resulted in Mr. Turky being knocked to the ground and subsequently needing medical attention.

Following the incident, Patong Police swiftly apprehended the three suspects involved. They were subjected to drug tests, which returned negative, and later confessed to their involvement in the assault. Consequently, the police have charged them with joint physical assault causing bodily and mental harm, an offense that could lead to imprisonment for up to two years, a fine of up to 40,000 baht, or both.

In response to the incident and the broader issue of motorcycle taxi queues outside the shopping mall, Patong Police officials have engaged with Phuket Transport authorities to enforce proper organization and prevent the misuse of local influence to perpetrate such acts of violence in the future.

The assault on Mr. Turky highlights ongoing concerns regarding public safety and law enforcement measures in Patong, prompting local authorities to take proactive steps in maintaining order and ensuring the safety of residents and visitors alike.
