Demolition and Stabilization Work Underway at Sam Sen Police Station Sinkhole Site

Work is ongoing to stabilize the area around the massive sinkhole near the Sam Sen Police Station in Bangkok, which formed on September 24, 2025, at an underground train construction site. Authorities are conducting demolition and reinforcement efforts to ensure the safety of nearby structures and prepare the site for further construction.

Riyachai Raviwan, Director of Bangkok’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Bureau, said that robotic cranes are being used to carefully remove sections of the police station’s walls to reduce structural weight. In parallel, crews are drilling soil survey holes to evaluate underground conditions and inject specialized concrete grouting to reinforce the foundation.

As of October 12, six of the eight planned survey holes have been completed. The remaining two are being prioritized to allow sand to be filled to reach the intended height of seven meters, a key step in securing the area and preventing further ground subsidence.

Officials overseeing the project emphasized that these measures are part of a coordinated approach to stabilize the ground and ensure public safety while investigations into the sinkhole’s cause continue.
