PATHUM THANI — An elderly woman was killed and six others were injured in a cooking gas explosion at a townhouse in Muang district of Pathum Thani on Saturday morning.

The powerful blast originated in the kitchen of a two-storey townhouse and triggered a fire that quickly engulfed the property. Firefighters rushed to the scene and managed to bring the flames under control, preventing the blaze from completely destroying two adjoining townhouses. However, both neighbouring units sustained serious structural damage due to the force of the explosion.

Rescue teams discovered the body of a 64-year-old woman in the kitchen area. Her identity had not been confirmed at the time of reporting. According to officials, the explosion is believed to have been caused by a gas leak.

Emergency medical teams provided first aid to six injured individuals at the scene. Some suffered burns and were transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Police revealed that the townhouse where the explosion occurred had been converted into a beauty salon. Four people lived in the property, including the deceased.

Authorities are now conducting a full investigation to determine whether the gas system had been properly maintained and whether safety regulations were followed.
