Teenager electrocuted while pushing motorcycle through floodwater in Samut Prakan

A 17-year-old boy died in the early hours of Monday, September 2, after being electrocuted while attempting to push his motorcycle through floodwaters in Samut Prakan, according to local police.

The incident occurred at around 1 a.m. on Praekasa Road in Tambon Praekasa, Muang District, where heavy flooding had left parts of the road submerged. Police said the victim, identified as Thanakorn Naksutin from Lop Buri Province, collapsed after coming into contact with an electrified concrete barrier.

Thanakorn had been trying to move his motorcycle, a white Honda Click, along the waterlogged road when a pickup truck passed at high speed, creating a wave that caused him to lose balance. Witnesses told investigators that as he tried to steady himself by grabbing the construction barrier, he was immediately thrown back and fell unconscious. His motorcycle was later found leaning against the same barrier.

Authorities believe the teenager was electrocuted by a live current leaking from electrical wiring that had been laid across the concrete barrier as part of ongoing construction works. Rescue teams were unable to approach the body until power was cut by local electricity officials.

Police said they will examine the role of the contractor responsible for the barriers and wiring, and legal action could follow if negligence is confirmed.

Watana Sakhon, chief of Samut Prakan’s disaster mitigation office, said high tides on Sunday and Monday had slowed flood drainage across the district. He confirmed that the victim’s death was caused by electrocution, and added that flood conditions remain a concern for safety in the province.
