BANGKOK — The People’s Party has formally declared its support for Bhumjaithai Party leader Anutin Charnvirakul to become Thailand’s 32nd prime minister, but with strict conditions attached. The announcement, made by party leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, signals a tactical move that underscores the party’s insistence on a renewed mandate from voters.

According to Natthaphong, the People’s Party will back Mr. Anutin’s candidacy only if the incoming administration commits to dissolving parliament within four months of announcing its policy statement. The party also demanded a clear framework for constitutional amendments, arguing that reform is necessary to restore public confidence in Thailand’s political system.

The People’s Party further emphasized that any Bhumjaithai-led government must function strictly as a minority administration. Natthaphong stressed that his party would remain in opposition, even while extending support for the premiership under the outlined conditions.

He added that the party’s position had not shifted since the release of an audio clip that stirred political controversy earlier this year. The party maintains that dissolution of the House of Representatives is the most effective route to resolving political uncertainty, returning power to the electorate, and paving the way for a more stable government.

The agreement will only take effect once Mr. Anutin formally accepts the conditions set by the People’s Party.
