Top Police Officer’s Car Catches Fire in Pattaya Early Morning
A senior Thai police officer narrowly avoided injury after his Mercedes-Benz sedan caught fire in the early hours of 25 July 2025 at a well-known intersection in Pattaya, prompting an emergency response and an ongoing investigation into the cause of the blaze.
The incident occurred around 2:40 a.m. near the Matchstick Factory Intersection along Sukhumvit Road, a prominent route in the resort city. Emergency teams from the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Centre and Pattaya City Fire Department responded to reports of a burning vehicle and arrived to find the luxury car engulfed in flames, particularly concentrated around the engine compartment.
Thick smoke and intense heat made initial access difficult, and efforts by bystanders using nearby water sources proved ineffective. Firefighters deployed multiple units and took more than ten minutes to bring the situation under control.
Authorities confirmed that the Mercedes-Benz belonged to a high-ranking police officer, who was reportedly driving home when the vehicle malfunctioned. The officer managed to exit the car unharmed before it became fully engulfed in flames. His identity has not been disclosed, pending the results of the official inquiry.
The exact cause of the fire remains undetermined. Investigators from both the police and fire department are reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding businesses and will conduct a forensic examination of the vehicle once conditions allow.
