Gunman Kills Five, Then Himself at Bangkok Market
A mass shooting at Or Tor Kor market in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district left five people dead and two others injured on July 29, 2025, before the gunman took his own life. Authorities have identified the assailant as 61-year-old Noi Praidaen, a Thai national from Nakhon Ratchasima Province.
According to Bangkok police, the incident began shortly after noon when Noi arrived at the market, allegedly having forced a taxi driver at gunpoint to bring him there. He then opened fire, targeting four market security guards and one woman vendor. Two other women sustained injuries. After the attack, Noi fatally shot himself while seated on a bench in front of his wife’s stall.
Security footage from the scene showed the suspect, dressed in a black shirt and camouflage shorts, methodically carrying out the shooting. In one clip, a woman vendor was seen pleading for her life inside her stall moments before being shot at close range. Eyewitnesses reported that the gunman appeared enraged and fired a shot into the air before walking away.
Police say the motive was rooted in a personal grievance dating back approximately five years. Noi had reportedly held a grudge against market security guards after a car parked near his wife’s stall was scratched. Investigators confirmed that the 9mm CZ Shadow pistol used in the shooting was legally registered to him.
Noi was reportedly known for aggressive behavior, especially when intoxicated. His wife told authorities that while he had a history of domestic violence, she had not observed any unusual behavior on the morning of the incident. Bangkok Police Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Sayam Boonsom confirmed the shooting was not politically motivated, calling it a personal dispute that escalated into deadly violence.
