The opposition People’s Party has called for a thorough investigation into fatal accidents at construction sites on the Rama II elevated expressway project, urging accountability for both human casualties and material losses. Party leader Natthaphong Ruangpanyawut stated on Monday that clear legal action is necessary to prevent similar incidents in the future.

According to Natthaphong, multiple accidents over the past six years have resulted in more than 100 deaths and thousands of injuries, yet those responsible have not been held accountable. He stressed that delays in justice have fueled public frustration, calling for transparent investigations and swift legal proceedings.

The most recent accident occurred on Saturday night when a bridge section under construction near the Dao Khanong toll plaza collapsed, killing six people, including an engineer, and injuring around 20 others.

Natthaphong also voiced support for safety reforms proposed by the Association of Structural Engineers of Thailand, which include requiring all engineers, foremen, technicians, and workers involved in large-scale construction projects to hold licenses or permits. The association has also recommended regulating subcontractors and mandating the installation of CCTV at construction sites to ensure incidents are recorded and investigated properly.
