The Thai Soft Power Subcommittee is set to host the “Amazing MuayThai World Festival 2025” on February 5-6, 2025, at Rajabhakti Park in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. The event celebrates Thailand’s rich martial arts heritage, particularly Muay Thai, with an aim to promote it as a global cultural and sports phenomenon.

On January 21, 2025, Dr. Pimon Srivikrom, Chair of the Sports Industry Promotion Subcommittee, announced the festival during a press conference at the Lumpinee Thai Boxing Development Center in Bangkok. The event commemorates the 323rd anniversary of the ascension of King Sanphet VIII (commonly known as King Tiger), revered as the “Father of Muay Thai,” with the festival coinciding with this significant date on February 6, 2025.

The Royal Thai Army has collaborated with multiple government and private organizations, including the National Soft Power Development Committee, the Department of Cultural Promotion, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and academic institutions, to bring the festival to life. This collaboration aims to emphasize Muay Thai as a symbol of Thailand’s national identity and cultural legacy.

The festival will feature performances and activities that showcase the historical and cultural significance of Muay Thai, including reenactments of ancient Thai martial arts traditions. Over 2,000 performers will bring to life key moments from history, including the evolution of Muay Thai as a close-combat technique used by ancient warriors for self-defense and national protection.

Highlights include:

  1. Historical Reenactments: A dramatic retelling of Muay Thai’s roots, focusing on its development as a combat art.
  2. Grand Displays: A military formation symbolizing “323 years” in Thai numerals to honor King Sanphet VIII.
  3. Artistic Performances: Stunning demonstrations of traditional Muay Thai moves and Wai Khru rituals, enhanced with light and sound shows.

The festival will also feature a fireworks display and additional activities, such as cultural exhibitions, traditional Thai food stalls, and OTOP (One Tambon One Product) showcases from Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. Visitors can explore over 60 local vendors offering regional delicacies and artisanal goods.

The event aligns with the government’s strategy to leverage cultural assets as “soft power” to promote Thailand’s creative economy. By combining tradition with modern creativity, the festival seeks to boost Thailand’s global cultural footprint and strengthen local economies through increased tourism and cultural exports.

Officials expect over 10,000 participants from around the world to attend, highlighting the international appeal of Muay Thai. Local dignitaries and representatives from key organizations, including tourism and cultural agencies, are also set to join the celebration.
