A man has been arrested in Buri Ram Province in northeastern Thailand, suspected of killing and decapitating four puppies. Police found the dogs’ remains, including decapitated and crushed heads, buried beneath a tree on the property in Ban Don Kwang, Chaloem Phra Kiat district.

Acting on a tip about the puppies’ deaths, local authorities, accompanied by representatives from The Hope Thailand Foundation—an organization dedicated to preventing animal cruelty—visited the house on November 13 to investigate the incident. Police questioned the homeowner, known as “Khieu,” who denied involvement, stating he had been raising the puppies’ mother.

Their attention then turned to Khieu’s 28-year-old stepson, identified as “Tao,” who displayed signs of nervousness and failed to cooperate with the investigation. Officers observed a blood stain on his shirt, which he claimed was his own; however, no wounds were visible on him to support his account.

A subsequent search of the premises led police to a blood-stained machete and a shovel, tools suspected to have been used in burying the puppies’ bodies. Authorities believe Tao may have killed the puppies out of anger directed at his stepfather, allegedly stemming from frequent drunken arguments between the older man and Tao’s mother.

Peeraboon Charoenwai, head of The Hope Thailand Foundation, indicated that the suspect may face charges under Thailand’s animal cruelty laws.
