In a follow-up to last week’s Cabinet meeting, the Thai government has announced a new resolution aimed at providing relief to consumers by lowering the electricity rate. The new rate will be set at 3 Baht and 99 Satang per unit, marking a significant reduction from the previous rate of 4 Baht and 10 Satang. This new rate will be effective starting from the accounting month of September.
Government Spokesperson Chai Watcharong reported that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Pirapan Salirathavibhaga played a pivotal role in successfully negotiating this additional reduction with the Office of Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC). This move is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to alleviate financial burdens on the public.
Addressing the concerning increase in gasoline prices, Deputy Prime Minister Pirapan stated that discussions will be held with the Customs Department in response to the situation. The government aims to lower gasoline prices as a New Year gift for 2024, with a specific focus on assisting vulnerable groups in the country.
Furthermore, the government spokesperson highlighted another significant development. Prime Minister [Full Name] engaged in discussions with the director of Chiang Mai Airport to extend its operating hours. Starting from November 1st, 2023, Chiang Mai Airport will operate around the clock, accommodating the influx of Chinese tourists. This expansion aligns with the new visa-free policy, enhancing tourism prospects and economic activity in the region.
