On Saturday (19 November), Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Naraporn Chan-o-cha, wife of Thai Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, paid a visit to the Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music.

Peng was greeted by Naraporn, the Minister of Higher Education Anek Laothamatas, the Board of Council Chairman of the Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music, Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, and the President of the institute, Choowit Yurayong.

Following this, the two ladies paid a visit to the institute’s showroom, during which they were given a thorough introduction to the institute’s development and external cooperation, and during which they voiced their gratitude for the institute’s longstanding partnership with Nanjing University of the Arts.

Peng and Naraporn attended a combined concert by the Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music and the Nanjing University of the Arts and posed for photographs together. She also cheered on students as they sang traditional songs from China and Thailand.

Princess Galyani’s effort to build an art education center in order to nurture highly skilled professional musicians was praised by China’s first lady. She praised Naraporn for her work to foster relationships between the institute and universities in China.

Although the Chinese and Thai languages are different, Peng remarked, individuals from the two nations may interact with each other via music. She felt the “close as one family” relationship between the two nations represented by the performances.
