In the culmination of the Plate to Planet competition, the government has shown a few of the winning dishes. A select group of Asian and Pacific leaders will dine on the winning teams’ creations this month during APEC Leaders’ Week.
Mr. Anucha Nakasai, a minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, and Michelin-starred chef Chumpol Jangprai brought samples of their cuisine to the government home to share with the Prime Minister. As part of the APEC Future Food for Sustainability initiative, a competition is looking for creative Thai dishes to showcase Thai cuisine and sustainability.
The final round of the competition features 21 finalists who have created unique dishes like flourless noodles made from egg white protein, an ice cream bar packed with protein and vitamin B, and a new take on traditional Khanom Chan sweets with 40% less sugar and natural coloring extracted from dragon fruit.
According to Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, these developments would help boost the price of Thai goods. On November 18 at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Center in Bangkok, the Thai government will hold an evening gala for economic leaders from around the Asia-Pacific region. According to Chef Chumpol Jangprai, the whole menu will use solely locally produced foods in an effort to showcase the Bio-Circular-Green economic model.
