Bangkok is increasing security measures for this year’s Loy Krathong holiday in light of the recent tragedy in South Korea, when 154 people were murdered in a crowd crush in Seoul’s Itaewon area.
Chadchart Sittipunt, the governor of Bangkok, has reportedly ordered all of the city’s districts to devise measures to ensure the public’s safety. He also emphasized the need of crowd management during festive gatherings.
The governor said that teaching kids CPR and other lifesaving skills was an important element of his plan to prevent mortality at large gatherings.
On the eighth of November, celebrations of Loy Krathong will be held in the capital city’s Klong Ong Ang and other parks and landmarks.
Because of the large crowds that congregate near major waterways, authorities are concerned that someone may accidentally fall into one of the rivers during the festivities.
