In order to reduce the impact of upcoming protests on commuters and residents of the capital, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) said it is actively seeking a new location to host public protests.

The pro-democracy Thalu Gas movement held another round of anti-government protests this weekend, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt told BMA leaders, at a recent meeting, that he was closely following the overall situation and added that the BMA did not approve of any form of violence but was only committed to minimizing the impact that future protests might cause to public transport users.

The governor explained that relocating future protests to an appropriate location will provide medical teams with sufficient time to anticipate emergencies and allow police to secure the area. Security teams will also be deployed throughout the capital to ensure the safety of residents.

The deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, Pol Maj Gen Jirasant Kaewsaeng-ek, said that law enforcement agencies will work to identify those suspected of breaking the law during the weekend protests in Din Deang district and added that three people have already been issued with arrest warrants in connection with the burning of a police vehicle during the recent protests.
