1,801 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported by Thailand. This figure is positive as it is the lowest in nearly 13 months, while the country is in the midst of reopening to international tourists.

With the most recent infections, the total number of cases in Thailand has surpassed 4,48 million since the outbreak began. The country recorded 15 new deaths on Monday, bringing the total number of deaths to 30 349.

Thailand wants to boost tourism and its economy. To do this, it has lightened its border controls since June 1st. In addition, it wants to abolish the Thailand Pass, which was mandatory for foreigners wishing to enter the country.

The Southeast Asian country has increased its vaccination rate and reduced the severity of illness and death caused by COVID-19.

As of Sunday, approximately 87.1 percent of the country’s nearly 70 million people had received full vaccinations, with 41.6 percent receiving boosters.
