Following the official announcement in February, the production, import, export, distribution, consumption and possession of cannabis, except for psychoactive substances, will be officially legalized on June 9 when an announcement issued by the Ministry of Public Health and published in the Royal Gazette takes effect. According to this new regulation all parts of cannabis plants containing less than 0.2% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) will be legally marketed.

As a result, Judicial Office spokesperson Sorawit Limparangsri revealed that recent cannabis-related infractions that have resulted in lawsuits and detentions could be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Thus, some sentences could be overturned and penalties reimbursed if the offence falls within the scope of this new law.
