Mr. Khajit Chatchavanich, Permanent Secretary of Bangkok, revealed the marriage registration on February 14, 2022, of all 50 district offices in Bangkok was done by 2,264 married couples, including 79 LGBT+ couples. The most popular district office remains Bang Rak District Office while a new hot registration destination for LGBT+ lovers is Bang Khun Thian District Office.
The highest number as always still was found at Bang Rak District Office, 385 pairs, followed by 9 other districts, namely Bang Khun Thian District Office, 162 pairs, Bang Sue District, 87 pairs, Bang Khae District, 66 pairs, Lat Phrao District, 61 pairs, Minburi District, 59 pairs, Bang Bon District, 56 pairs, Sai Mai District 55 pairs, Khlong Sam Wa District, 54 pairs, Thawi Watthana District, 53 pairs, and the Thonburi District Office having the least number of marriage registrations, 12 pairs. On the other hand, a total of 56 pairs of divorce registration services were numbered.
In addition to the marriage registration of male-female couples, this year the Bang Khun Thian District Office made a surprise by organizing a campaign ‘Love Notes’ for LGBTQ+ couples. Dr. Pongchakarin Thavornpong, Director of Bang Khun Thian District Office, said that equality must be reflected in all aspects, which is the policy driven by the Bangkok governor. Bang Khun Thian District, therefore, came up with this project to create space for LGBTQ+ groups who also have equal human dignity. As of now, there are 79 LGBTQ+ couples registered for love declaration, with more female-female couples than male-male.
Marriage registration service in 50 district offices in Bangkok individually surprised couples with special love events and related services such as prize-giving, photo shooting, family planning counseling, etc., under strict health measures as usual.
