Hygiene measures have been taken to reduce the impacts and alleviate people’s suffering in Onnut from foul smells caused by waste disposal. More trees are to be planted to absorb air pollution as well.

Pol. Gen. Asawin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok, has ordered relevant agencies to expedite the measures to end foul-smelling air caused by Onnut Waste Disposal Center such as increasing the frequency of disinfection spraying, making the center a more closed area, and improving the air treatment system and wastewater treatment system.

In addition, the Office of Environment Drainage Bureau and the Prawet District Office have integrated cooperation to speed up the improvement of water conditions in the canals dug in Onnut Waste Disposal Center to be 1.2 kilometers long, 25 meters wide, and 3 meters deep. In parallel, landscape adjustment within the center and its surrounding areas- planting more trees- can help alleviate air pollution and beautify the scenery.

It is reported that 4,300 tons of trash is sent to the center daily for disposal. Bombarding bad odors not only disturb residents living nearby the center, but also the center staff directly; some staff feel like vomiting, have a dizzy head, and even lose appetite in the very first days at work. Another concerning issue found inside the disposal unit is contaminated waste caused by no sorting out by household units, which poses a threat to the well-being of workers.
