Beneficiaries of the Universal Coverage Scheme, also known as the gold card or 30-baht scheme, will now be eligible to seek medical treatment at primary care units nationwide.

Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said people under this healthcare program do not need to seek referral documents from the units where patients are registered.

National Health Security Office (NHSO) and the Public Health Ministry will work in sync to guarantee the perfect function of this new feature. Further upgrades of the universal health care service are a key priority.

Upgrades of the Universal Coverage scheme were only available in some provinces, but now as a New Year’s eve gift for cardholders, the new service will be expanded nationwide.

Deputy Prime Minister said, “If cardholders happen to be sick in areas where they did not register for the service, they can now receive treatment at primary health care units nationwide without the need for referrals.”

”The change is intended to ease the plight of cardholders and cut unnecessary steps involving referral of patients to improve access to treatment,” Mr. Anutin said.
