Around the country Thai people are celebrating the Royal birthday His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej Maha Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, which is also designated as Fathers day in Thailand. The occasion of King Bhumibol’s birthday on 5 December has previously been marked by celebrations and candlelit ceremonies around Thailand, both in the form of large-scale organised events and smaller gatherings of groups of individuals in local communities.
In the past a great multitude of Thais would descend on the streets hoping to secure a position that would allow them to see up close the (previous) King as he passed along or made a speech. Traditionally Thais would wear yellow shirts, in order to represent Monday, the day of the king’s birth in 1927.
More recently on December 5 at Sanam Luang General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense and Mrs. Naraporn Chan-o-cha his wife, attended the the merit-making ceremony for monks and novices on the occasion of the royal birthday His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej Maha Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great. Also in attendance was the prelate and monk novices, in which comprised a total of 89 monks, who received the alms. A great many important figures also attended including the Privy Council, the President of the National Assembly, the President of the Supreme Court, president of the senate Chairman of the constitutional independent organization, the Cabinet, the royal government agencies army commander Governor of Bangkok Officials from various departments attended the ceremony in unison.
Then at 8:30 am, the Prime Minister and his wife preside over the ceremony of laying the bushes and paying homage. On the occasion of the Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, National Day and Father’s Day, December 5…
Koh Samui also paid it’s respects at the Kanchanaphisek Building, Ang Thong Subdistrict, Koh Samui District, Surat Thani Province, Mr. Weerapong helped the Koh Samui District Chief lead officials, merchants, people from Koh Samui to participate in the merit-making ceremony to offer alms to the royal merit. All participants in the ceremony complied with public health measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, with registration and body temperature checks as well.
